I was told I should make a guide how to install Japanese games, because computers can't magically translate the Moon Runes and instead it becomes Mars Speak. Turns out my computer can, so making this guide became harder than I thought it would.
There are two ways of installing iso files;
One is through extracting the iso file into a folder and pressing the exe file.
The other is launching the iso file in Daemon Tools.
Both works, though I personally recommend getting Daemon Tools. It'll become your best friend when it comes to installing PC games through iso.
Anyhow, let's get a game installed... let's see what this old (wo)man has...
Just otome games... Okay, let's choose Honey Milk, because it's he first game in the series. As you see, they are all WinRar files. My bad - I was in the middle of re-installing Daemon Tools.
Oh well... Let's do this anyway...
I see an exe file. Double click!
And snack time... or tea time for me, since I'm saving my snack for later.
Minutes later...
OH NO! MARS SPEAK!
This is the problem people get. This specific window is actually telling you to download a special font. Well, who cares? We still can't install anything in Mars Speak!
That means, we have to solve the problem.
Through start, go to the Control Panel. After that, find International Settings and Language Settings in whatever language your computer happens to be in. If you have XP, the icon should be the same as mine. If you don't have XP... Well I don't know? I'm such an old fart refusing to change OS while all the youngsters are using something much newer.
DOUBLE CLICK! (That should be an attack name in a game... That would be just Engrish enough.)
That is what you should get. In your language, I hope.
Change the location and languages and all to Japan or Japanese...
Also, make sure you have East Asian support installed. If you don't, nothing will work. out of these, it's the most bottom box.
Then your computer should be asking you to reboot your computer. Once again, I really do hope it's not doing so in Swedish unless you have a Swedish computer too...
This is when I go to get my snack. If you make toast - don't burn your fingers like I did while making this guide. That is probably the most pointless thing I did through this guide making.
Minutes later... Again.
Let's try installing again!
SWEEEEEET! Now i can actually see it tells me to download a certain font.
Not all games will ask you something like that. Some might just says "eat this!" and throw you a Mars Speak installation, and some might just give you a Mars Speak window where you can press OK and you have no clue what's going on.
Anyhow, Let's see this installation through.
Yep, working installation window.
Click Next (次へ(N))
Here's a problem area I know of. The first part is pretty easy to understand, right? You just choose where to install your game. The standard is C:\Programs\ and some folders it makes by itself. A lot of games will allow you to change, and if you are like me, you will have them on a completely separate hard disk drive which is so big that your computer is really slow in startup.
The second half is less straight forward for people who don't know Japanese. It asks if you wish to install the game on this user only, or all users on the computer. In most cases, people would like to install it only on their own user (if it's shared by family, for instance) and that is what is marked in the screenshot.
Click Next again.
And the game is installing.
When finished, you click on the button with a C, which is Close, because you completed the installation.
Now try running the software.
Yep, it's working!
